This week, Boston College defeated Harvard in a midweek matchup before being swept by the Louisville Cardinals in ACC play.
Annie Murphy and Jessica Dreswick, both seniors, climbed their way to the top of the BC record books against Harvard as Murphy now has the all time school record for doubles and Dreswick for wins. Dreswick threw yet another gem, allowing only one run and five hits in a complete game effort. Murphy paced the offense with two hits which allowed the Eagles to push across enough runs in a 3-1 victory.
In the opener in Louisville, Ally Frei took the hill and was quite effective for the first few innings. However, in the fifth, she gave up three runs before Dreswick came in from the bullpen for 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. Lexi DiEmmanuele stole three bases on the day, but the Eagles were unable to overcome the three run fifth in a 4-2 loss.
In Saturday’s middle game, Dreswick took the bump looking to even the series at one game apiece. Despite another solid performance from her (six innings, one earned run), the defense committed three errors en route to the team’s third ACC series loss. Despite the loss, two freshmen, Emme Martinez and CC Cook, each had multi-hit games to pace the offense. BC fell to 4-10 in one run games on the season, something Ashley Obrest will need to correct as the season comes to a close.
In Sunday’s series finale, Ally Frei was given the ball once more, but it seemed like the Cardinal offense had put together a solid gameplan for hitting her. The Cardinals roughed her up for three runs in only two innings before Dreswick came in and gave up five in 2.1 innings of work in an 8-0 loss.
Despite the sweep, BC is still over .500 in ACC play for the season and will culminate its regular season with midweek games against UMass Lowell and Bryant before playing Georgia Tech in its final ACC series.
