Boston College Lacrosse Falls to UNC in ACC Championship

Next up, the NCAA Tournament

Kathryn Riley

The Boston College women’s lacrosse team lost a tough game to UNC today, falling to the Tar Heels by a score of 14-11 in the ACC Championship game.

The Eagles took an early 2-0 lead in the game, but UNC came back, took over the lead, and never let up. In particular, UNC’s goalie had a very strong game. BC outshot UNC 36-27 and had 22 SOG compared to UNC’s 20. Surprisingly, the Eagles were not the dominant team on draw controls today, which also hurt them.

Sam Apuzzo scored 4 goals for BC and led the entire game with 12 shots. BC’s other goals came from Kaileen Hart (2), Cara Urbank (2), Tess Chandler, and Dempsey Arsenault. Lauren Daly made 6 saves today, while UNC goaltender Taylor Moreno stopped 11 shots.

Although this was a disappointing loss, UNC is a terrific team and BC fought hard. Despite the loss, the Eagles should still be a high seed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, which begins on May 12. The selection show will air on May 9th at 9 PM on NCAA.com.
