Three Eagles have been named to the top 25 list of nominees for the 2018 Tewaaraton Award, which is given annually to the top female and male lacrosse players in the NCAA. Maryland and Boston College are the only teams with 3 players named to the list of female nominees. BC’s nominees are juniors Sam Apuzzo, Dempsey Arsenault, and Elizabeth Miller.
Sam Apuzzo is tied for second in the NCAA with 71 goals and 102 points so far this year. Apuzzo has set a number of program records at BC, including 117 draw controls, 25 caused turnovers and 34 ground balls in a single season this year. She has 246 career points, 172 career goals, and 218 career draw control wins. Apuzzo is definitely considered one of the favorites to win the Tewaaraton this season.
Dempsey Arsenault is a skilled two-way player who has a career high 77 points, 51 goals, and 26 assists this season. She picked up her 100th career point against Louisville yesterday and now has 102 career points. She also has 116 career ground balls, and averages 2.8 per game this season.
Elizabeth Miller is the core of BC’s phenomenal defense. Miller has 14 caused turnovers this season, and has picked up 27 ground balls. She has also scored a career high 5 goals for BC after scoring only 1 goal in each of her previous NCAA seasons.
Congrats to all 3 of BC’s nominees!
