Boston College Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Syracuse to Stay Undefeated

The Eagles end the regular season with a 17-0 record

Kathryn Riley

The Boston College women’s lacrosse has completed their best regular season ever, concluding with a thrilling 13-12 victory over the Syracuse Orange. With the win, the Eagles are the outright 2018 ACC Regular-Season Champions. The Eagles outshot Syracuse 37-27 and had a impressive 16 caused turnovers, but the Orange weren’t giving this one up without a fight.

Despite the close nature of yesterday’s game, Syracuse took the lead only once - breaking an 11-11 tie with 5 minutes to go. Ultimately, Sam Apuzzo was the hero of the game, scoring the tying goal and then notching the game-winner with only 1.7 seconds remaining in regulation. Apuzzo recorded 5 goals, 3 assists, 5 caused turnovers, and 7 draw control wins in the game. Tess Chandler also completed a hat trick for the Eagles, while Emma Schurr picked up a pair of goals. BC’s remaining goals were scored by Kaileen Hart, Taylor Walker, and Cara Urbank. Despite (unusually) not scoring in today’s game, Dempsey Arsenault was also an important factor in the win with 3 assists, 4 draw control wins, and 4 ground balls.

ACC Tournament play begins on Thursday, where BC with play either Syracuse or Louisville. BC defeated Louisville 19-10 last month ad the Cardinals are on a 6 game losing streak, so that would be the preferable opponent. But the Eagles have the skills to handle either team.
