Riding a ten game winning streak into the week, Ashley Obrest and her team were able to push the consecutive wins to 13 before falling to the number 13 team in the country, Florida State.
In midweek games against UMass and UConn to open up the new field on Brighton, the Eagles ran the win streak to 12 behind impressive performances by Ally Frei (UMass) and Jessica Dreswick (UConn). Frei held UMass to three hits in a complete game shutout while freshman Emme Martinez had two RBI in the 3-0 win. Dreswick threw a complete game two hitter against the Huskies, who managed to push a run across to avoid a shutout. For the second time in as many days, Martinez added two RBI, which proved to be the difference in a 4-1 win.
In the weekend series against FSU, Frei was lights out in the series opener as she held the Seminoles to only two hits. In the pitchers’ duel, she was able to come out victorious after the Eagles scored on an FSU error that allowed Carly Severini to score the game’s only run in a 1-0 victory.
In game two, the Eagles outhit the Seminoles 12-3, but a five run sixth inning allowed the ‘Noles to overcome a 4-0 deficit and take game two of the series, 5-4. Both Chloe Shrabba and Annie Murphy went 3-4 on the day to pace the offense.
In the finale, it appeared the Eagles were out of gas as the Noles got to Frei early, putting a run on the board in both the first and second innings. In fact, the Eagles were only able to muster up 3 hits on the day without pushing a run across in a 5-0 loss.
This week, the Eagles will try to shake their two game losing streak against UMass and Notre Dame.
