The Boston College lacrosse team is still undefeated after picking up a 20-14 victory over #11 Navy today. The Eagles were led on offense by Sam Apuzzo, who scored a trio of hat tricks to set a program record for most goals in a single game with 9.
Two early goals by Apuzzo got BC started with a 2-1 lead over Navy, but 3 minutes later and after another Apuzzo goal, the score was knotted at 3-3. Navy then scored twice to take a 2 goal lead, before Emma Schurr cut the lead to 1 off an assist from her sister, Tara. Navy followed up Schurr’s goal with another pair and went up 7-4, but BC scored 7 unanswered goals to go up by 11. BC’s streak of goals were scored by Apuzzo, Kaileen Hart, Dempsey Arsenault (3), Brooke Troy, and Elizabeth Miller. Each team would score once more in the first half (BC’s goal was scored by Apuzzo) and the Eagles took a 12-8 lead into the locker room.
BC and Navy traded goals for the first 8 minutes of the second half, as Apuzzo and Emma Schurr scored for BC. Navy scored 3 unanswered goals to get within 1, but then Apuzzo and Tess Chandler each scored to increase BC’s lead to 16-13. Navy would score once more in the game, while BC added 4 more goals: a pair from Apuzzo, Chandler’s second of the game, and a last second goal from Ally Mayle.
Outside of scoring, Elizabeth Miller led the match with 7 draw controls and Arsenault led with 6 assists and 4 ground balls.
