Boston College Football Holds First Practice

NCAA Football: Pinstripe Bowl-Boston College vs Iowa Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Boston College Eagles spring football is back under the bubble (for the last time!). Today the team held helmets only practice, meaning no contact. Steve Addazio was impressed by the work ethic of the team, and that this is an incremental process. Some interesting things to note:

  • EJ Perry IV is taking QB1 duties this spring as Anthony Brown has not returned from his injury (he should be ready in time for the summer). John Fadule and Matt McDonald will serve as the backups this spring.
  • Just looking at the roster and an area of concern may be the depth at running back. True the Eagles have A.J. Dillon one of the best running backs in the country, but after the sophomore there is just Travis Levy (who added ten pounds of muscle) this spring. David Bailey a true freshman should join them this summer, and Ben Glines will certainly get some carries as well, but in a position that carries such importance in Addazio’s philosophy it’s surprising the depth is so thin.
  • Starting offensive line so far (with Jon Baker still out): Aaron Monteiro at left tackle, senior Sam Schmal at left guard, sophomore Ben Petrula at center, junior John Phillips at right guard and senior Chris Lindstrom at right tackle.
  • Just looking at the roster a few names that are no longer listed: Troy Flutie, Richard Wilson, Kevin Cohee, Austin Stevens and Shane Leonard. Not sure why they are gone, but they are.
