Yesterday, the Boston College women’s basketball team lost to Syracuse by a score of 69-63 in the teams’ final game of the regular season. The Eagles were led by Taylor Ortlepp, who recorded a career high 28 points. Georgia Pineau also had a strong game, recording her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Despite strong outing for the pair of Australian sophomores, the Eagles could not stage a proper comeback and ended up dropping their fourth game in a row.
As anybody who has been following this team knows, this was another disappointing season for BC WBB despite marked improvement by Ortlepp and Pineau. BC finishes the regular season with only 2 ACC wins and a 7-22 overall record. This is BC’s worst winning percentage since 2011-12, when they went 7-23. The Eagles have not lost more than 7 games since 1994-95 when they went 6-21, but the team’s last winning season was 2010-2011, two years before Coach Johnson took over.
BC is second to last in the ACC this season with an average of 57 points per game in conference play (ahead of only the last place Clemson Tigers). The Eagles have the worst average scoring differential in the ACC at -11.5. The Eagles are also tied for second in the ACC with 17.4 per game turnovers and are last in blocked shots (2.37 per game) and steals (4.8 per game). As we’ve said before, it would be shocking if Martin Jarmond keeps Coach Johnson on next season based on this season and seasons prior.
