OL Coach Justin Frye To Take Same Position With UCLA

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Boston College Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

Boston College lost another assistant this week, as offensive line/running game coach Justin Frye is departing to join Chip Kelly at UCLA. Frye, who has been the offensive line coach since joining the Eagles with Steve Addazio in 2013 is expected to have the same role with the Bruins according to reports by Pete Thamel.

Frye is definitely going to be missed, as he brought together an offensive line last year that was playing at a very level. Boston College was 12th in the nation in sacks allowed, and the run game which he was in charge of was 25th in the country. While BC’s offensive line in year’s past were struggling it appeared that Frye had them ready to be that classic BC offensive line in 2018.

Thamel also reported that BC has their next offensive line coach already lined up. Phil Trautwein, who was set to become Yale’s offensive line coach is coming back to the Heights a place where he was a GA from 2013-2015. Trautwein, a former Florida Gators and NFL offensive lineman was most recently the special teams and tight ends with Davidson. Even though he is young (only 31), it is good to see that BC is bringing in a coach that knows the system and knows what to expect from Steve Addazio.
