Boston College (16-10, 6-7 ACC) is hoping to get revenge on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (14-10, 4-7) in tonight’s rematch from two weeks ago. When these teams last met, Jerome Robinson’s 46 points were not enough to will the Eagles to victory as BC lost 95-86. Both teams, who likely need to win out in order to make the NCAA Tournament, know how important this game is.
Keys to the Game
Defense was the major struggle in South Bend two weeks ago. The Eagles allowed a season-high 96 points and allowed Notre Dame to shoot 55% from three. In the last two games Jim Christian’s squad has shown that they can shut down opposing offenses: Miami failed to score in the last six minutes and Pittsburgh put up just 24 in the second half. That level of energy and awareness will need to be on display from the opening tip off if the Eagles hope to win this one.
Notre Dame’s Strengths
Notre Dame has struggled since losing Bonzie Colson but their defense remains stout, allowing just 68 points a game. They held Florida State and #14 North Carolina to 69 and 66 respectively. They’ve also proven to be reliable shooters, making 37% of their shots from behind the arc. Given the way teams have shot against BC this year (Notre Dame went 16-29 last time), the three could be the Irish’s biggest weapons against the Eagles.
Notre Dame Player To Watch
#5 G Matt Farrell. Farrell is a shooter who doesn’t stop shooting. In Notre Dame’s loss to UNC, he went just 3-18 and 1-12 from three. But in wins versus BC and FSU, he’s scored 19 and 28 on superb efficiency. BC’s odds in this game likely depend on how he performs. If Farrell keeps missing, the Eagles will should come out okay.
Toppin: 75-68 BC
