Dan Shaughnessy reported yesterday in the Boston Globe that Netflix plans to make a movie about the life of former Eagle baseball player and ALS awareness champion Pete Frates. Casey Affleck will reportedly produce the film for Netflix.

Frates, class of 2007, played centerfield for Boston College baseball and served as captain his senior season. He was MVP of the 2016 baseball Beanpot at Fenway Park. He returned to the heights to serve as director of baseball operations in 2012, and was diagnosed with ALS in the same year. Frates spearheaded the Ice Bucket Challenge, a viral social media campaign to raise awareness for ALS in 2014. His campaign would raise over $220 million to help find a cure for the disease. BC baseball retired Frates’ number 3 in 2016.

This is big news for Frates, who has been a national inspiration and outstanding representative of the university. Netflix has not announced an air date for the film.
