Off to a good start!

The Boston College women’s basketball team is off to a 1-0 start under new head coach, Joanna Bernabei-McNamee, after defeating URI by a score of 88-64 tonight. This is the first time BC has scored 80+ points since February of 2017. The Eagles, who averaged 17.4 turnovers a game last season, had only 15 tonight. Additionally, BC had 55 rebounds after averaging 33.1 last year.

The Eagles outscored URI in the first 3 quarters, and URI was only able to get back into the game to a degree in the fourth quarter, when the Eagles started giving more playing time to their bench. Freshman standout Marnelle Garraud led BC in her first game as an Eagle, recording 19 points and earning 4 steals. Junior Emma Guy had a solid 10 rebounds to lead BC on that front, Taylor Ortlepp picked up 15 points (all 3 pointers) and 4 rebounds, and freshman Makayla Dickens recorded 12 points and 7 rebounds.

BC returns to action on Sunday for their home opener against Saint Peter’s University, following the BC men’s basketball game. Fans can attended both games with a ticket for either.
