Boston College Soccer Recap: ACC Tournament

NCAA Football: Notre Dame at Boston College Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

The Eagles traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina to take on NC State in the first round of the ACC men’s soccer tournament, where it took only ten minutes for Ed Kelly’s team to fall behind on a Brad Sweeney free kick from about 25 yards out. Minutes later, the Wolfpack had a chance to double their lead on a rebound, but Abe Bibas made a big goal line save to keep the Eagles within striking distance.

BC would eventually equalize, only fifteen minutes into the second half, but the score would not remain level for long. Only nine minutes later, in the 70th minute, State would take the lead, this time for good, on a little tap in on the back post. While the Eagles would push to find a second equalizer, they left themselves vulnerable to a counter attack, which the Wolfpack were able to take advantage of and double their lead, making it 3-1, which would be the final score.

Unfortunately, that is the end of the line for BC. They will not advance to postseason play. Hopefully, next year, Ed Kelly can work on getting the team to not give up goals so soon after they score, which was a huge problem this year.
