Your Fort Myers Tip-off Tournament champs are back in action tonight, hosting the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the ACC/B1G Challenge. After a very slow start to the OOC schedule, the Eagles started to put it together in their win over Loyola Chicago with a combination of very good defensive pressure and offense from players other than Ky Bowman (particularly with breakouts from Jordan Chatman and Jairus Hamilton). Can the Eagles build on their success in Florida with a strong showing against a good Big Ten team?
Also, Martin Jarmond is offering free snacks…
Keys to Beating the Golden Gophers
1. Early pressure: The Eagles did a great job challenging a good offensive Ramblers team last week. All too often, though, they have let teams get comfortable with wide open shots early in the game. They need to come out with the same effort and communication on switches that we saw last week to keep Minnesota uncomfortable and to open up fast break opportunities to get the offense rolling.
2. Ball movement: Ky can create his shot whenever he wants, but Jim Christian needs to be careful to not let the other players sit back and watch. Having Ky out for a prolonged stretch last game seemed to give them the jumpstart they needed to move that ball. Establish that ball movement right away, and let Ky do his thing as the game wears on.
3. Baby Eagles hatching: Jairus Hamilton looked like he was starting to find his comfort zone last week. Chris Herren Jr. hit some big threes. Wynston Tabbs has been a big contributor. BC needs these freshmen to step up and limit mistakes to be successful.
Predictions:
Matt: 75-68 Eagles
Pat: 77-68 Gophers
Hoff: 77-73 Minnesota
Katie: I’m feeling confident after last week, which I’ve learned is usually a good time to expect the worst. 71- 68 Gophers
Food and Non-alcoholic Beverage to enjoy during the game
I, for one, could not be more done with leftovers. Get there early and take advantage of the free late night for students! Or if you’re an old lady like myself, enjoy a nice cup of chowder and coke.
