Boston College Men’s Ice Hockey v. Bentley: Final Thoughts and Predictions

Make sure to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the first game of the annual toy drive!

2005 Beanpot Tournament

Hey y’all!

I’ve been stuck in the law library getting ready for law school exams. I’ve been kind of behind on BC sports, so before getting started on these predictions, I’m going to fire up the old internet machine and check the Twitters and the BC Interruptus to get up to speed!

Ok, here we go and oh my god everything is on fire.

So. A couple of things.

  1. The Oliver Wahlstrom news, while nerve-wracking and concerning, are still rumors at this point.
  2. As of press time, Wahlstrom is still a member of the Boston College Eagles hockey team.
  3. We will proceed, in this predictions article, as if Wahlstrom is still a member of the team.

With that said: like I said, and I can’t stress this enough: I am in the law library preparing for exams. So, if something goes down between me writing this and it posting, I’m probably not going to update it in time. So, you have been warned.

UPDATE: HE’S STAYING Y’ALL. EVERYTHING IS FINE AND GREAT!

Now. Let’s get to predicting stuff I guess.

Breaking down the Bentley Series

  1. Hey Did You Hear About That BC Hockey Departure?: No, not that one dumm... read the top of the article again! But yeah, BC lost another player. Jacob Tortora left the program last Saturday. While he didn’t play a whole lot this year, if Jerry York needs to do some... ah.... line reshuffling, the Eagles lost a decent depth player that could have been in York’s reshuffling plans. Or not. But just know he left. This is sad. I’m making myself sad.
  2. Hey Watch Out for that Potent Bentley Offense: No I’m actually kind of serious about this one. First of all, BC fans should long be past thumbing their noses at teams coming into Conte. If you underestimate a team this year and that team beats the Eagles it’s your own damn fault for being surprised. But, also, Bentley in particular has interesting stats. Bentley is near the bottom in CF%, but they are near the top in shooting percentage this year. Granted, Bentley hasn’t played a lot of good teams this year, but it’s something to keep an eye on. Bentley doesn’t control the run of play all that well, but it can be scary when they do get some shots on. That said...
  3. Woof. Defense.: Bentley is near the bottom in the country in save percentage, and are near the bottom in penalty kill. BC will win this game if they can control the run of play, which they should do, but who the hell knows anymore.

Random, Possibly Incorrect Fact from Wikipedia About Bentley

Bentley is actually owned by Volkswagen AG after an acquisition in 1998.

*checks earpiece*

I’m being told that is, in fact, the car manufacturer.

Random, Possibly Incorrect Fact from Wikipedia About Bentley University

In all sports that aren’t hockey, Bentley plays in Division II.

Non-Alcoholic Beverage of the Game

I’m writing this late at night because I’m in law school exam prep mode.

A Thing About Bentley

Dan Rubin, an old BCI writer, does radio for Bentley! Say hi to him!

Predictions

These predictions, like everything else in this article, were done before knowing if Wahlstrom is leaving.

This feels like a game that BC can take control of early and put away. That said, they won’t. But I still think BC comes out on top.
