Former Boston College men’s hockey star Cam Atkinson received high honors on Monday, when he was named the NHL’s first star of the week. Atkinson put up five goals and three assists in three games for the Columbus Blue Jackets last week, helping to propel his team to the top of the Metropolitan division. Atkinson capped off his strong week with a hat trick against the Carolina Hurricanes, the fifth of his career.
Atkinson, who added another goal and assist in his team’s loss on Monday night, is currently on pace to shatter his career high point total of 62 that he set in the 2016-17 season. He now has 22 points in 20 games, good for a 90 point pace over a full 82 game season. Now 29, the former Eagle looks poised to put up his best season as he continues to produce fantastic numbers for someone who was once a sixth round pick. Congrats to Cam for the honors and best of luck for the rest of the season.
