The Boston College Eagles (2-0, 0-0 ACC) will hit the floor in Conte Forum for the third time tonight, this time facing the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Jaguars (1-1, 0-0 Horizon). Despite two frustratingly close games, the Eagles have an opportunity to get to 3-0 going into the Fort Meyers Tip Off next week. Freshman Wynston Tabbs and junior Ky Bowman have each been very tough in the backcourt, showing the ability to hit the three ball and get to the rim and finish amongst bigger defenders. Jordan Chatman has only hit two threes through two games, but fans should expect to see him start knocking down open looks. Steffon Mitchell has been a beast on the boards, accumulating 24 rebounds through the first game.
Keys to Beating the Jaguars
BC should be able to handle the Jags, as KenPom has them as the nation’s 281’s best team, with adjusted offensive and defensive efficiencies that rank 304th and 296th in the country, respectively. They’ll play mostly man, so Ky Bowman getting penetration and kicking to Tabbs, Chatman, and Jairus Hamilton, the Eagles could get wide open looks from three all game long, leading to an easy victory. On the defensive side of the ball, preventing IUPUI from getting open looks from three will be key. The Jaguars get about 40% of their offense from the three point line, and upset-minded teams are often helped by successful three point range.
Predictions:
Matt: 78-59 Eags. Too much Bowman
Katie: 78-64 BC
