National Signing Day 2018: Recapping The Other Offensive Skill Positions

How does BC look at RB/WR/TE?

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Boston College Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

The first batch of commitments are in for Boston College and we are going to break down the commits and how it effects the depth chart for the Eagles. Last week we looked at the quarterbacks. Today let’s take a look the skill positions on offense.

Running Backs:

David Bailey, 6-1, 235

Ridgely, Md./North Caroline

“ Rated as the number one running back prospect in Maryland by Rivals.com and 247Sports … led North Caroline High School to a 10-1 record as a senior … played for head coach James McCormick at North Caroline … Bayside Conference Player of the Year as he led the Bulldogs to the state semifinals … scored 35 touchdowns as a senior, despite sitting after halftime in most games, the first eight of which included a running clock for most of the second half … averaged three touchdowns per game and scored four touchdowns or more in four games his senior season … rushed for 1,582 yards on 114 carries, averaging 13.9 yards per carry … No. 65 running back nationally and No. 21 prospect in Maryland according to 247Sports … ranked as the 20th-best prospect in Maryland according to Rivals.com … ranked one of the top 100 running backs nationally by ESPN and the No. 27 prospect in Maryland … two-time first-team all-state selection … team captain”

Projected 2018 Returning Depth: A.J. Dillon (So.), Jon Hilliman (Sr.), Travis Levy (So.), Richard Wilson (So.)

Projected 2018 Two Deep: 1. A.J. Dillon 2. Jon Hilliman (with Travis Levy getting touches in passing situations).

Analysis: Clearly moving forward Dillon is going to be the featured back in this offense. But given how run heavy BC can get at times, Hilliman and Levy are going to get their touches as well. Don’t count out the value of Richard Wilson as well, as Addazio tends to lean on him in games that are out of hand. I wouldn’t be surprised if David Bailey plays right away.

Wide Receivers

Jehlani Galloway 6-1, 175

Providence, R.I./Classical

“Top-ranked player in Rhode Island according to 247Sports … No. 1 player in Rhode Island and the No. 108 wide receiver nationally according to ESPN Recruiting … played for head coach Kris McCall at Classical High School … second-team all-state as a junior with over 460 yards receiving and nine touchdowns … 603 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns his senior season … averaged 17.6 yards per reception over his high school career, including 19 touchdown receptions … 53 tackles and eight interceptions on defense over his junior and senior seasons … team captain …”

Projected 2018 Returning Depth: Elijah Robinson (Sr.), Michael Walker (Sr.), Jeff Smith (Sr.), Kobay White (So.), C.J. Lewis (So.), Troy Flutie (Sr.), Aidan Hegarty (So.), Ben Glines (Jr.), Chris Garrison (Jr.), Nolan Bergerson (Jr.), Noah Jordan Williams (R-Fr.), Andrew Strader (Jr.).

Projected Two Deep: WR1: White, Smith, C.J. Lewis WR2: Glines, Garrison and Walker

Analysis: BC has pretty solid depth here moving forward, with their leader in receiving yards for a wide receiver White returning. A starting group of Smith, Walker, White, Lewis, Glines and Garrison should be a solid combination moving into 2018. I would expect that Galloway is redshirted to give him a year to progress, something Addazio likes to do.

Tight End

Joey Luchetti 6-6, 235

Wayland, Mass./Lawrence Academy

“ Rated as the No. 2 tight end in Massachusetts and the nation’s No. 67 tight end according to 247Sports … listed as the No. 6 player overall in Massachusetts by 247Sports … rated as the seventh-best player in Massachusetts and the nation’s No. 41 tight end according to ESPN Recruiting … Independent School League co-MVP as a senior … Boston Globe All-Scholastic team … 45 receptions for 582 yards and four touchdowns for the 9-0 Spartans … 41 tackles, eight sacks and 12 TFLs at defensive end as a senior … also returned one interception for a touchdown … played for former Boston College All-American Paul Zukauskas at Lawrence Academy … also a standout basketball player at Lawrence Academy with over 1,000 career points … one of three Lawrence Academy products to sign with Boston College in the 2018 recruiting class … helped lead Lawrence Academy to a perfect 9-0 overall record … team captain “

Projected 2018 Returning Depth: Tommy Sweeney (Sr.) Korab Idrizi (Jr.), Jake Burt (Jr.), Hunter Long (R-Fr.), Drew McQuarrie (R-Fr.), Joe Vitiello (Sr.), Patrick Brown (R-Fr.)

Projected Two Deep: 1. Tommy Sweeney 2. Korab Idrizi

Analysis: Tommy Sweeney again will be the starter in most of the snaps, and I would expect that Idrizi returns for those extra tight end sets. Wouldn’t be surprised if someone like Jake Burt gets back into the mix. Of course Chris Garrison plays that sort of hybrid role so he should be in this mix as well.
