Over the weekend, the Boston College women’s hockey team went 1-1 against a hot Northeastern team. The Eagles fell 4-2 at home before defeating the Huskies in overtime at Matthews Arena.

Friday’s game was lost in the third period, as Northeastern scored 3 times in the final frame. Caitrin Lonergan and Makenna Newkirk scored for the BC in the loss. This was a big game for Newkirk, whose 2 points (1G, 1A) launched her into 10th place in program history with 128 career points. Newkirk is only a junior, so expect to see her near the top of the list by the time she graduates!

On Saturday, the Eagles earned an emotional overtime win in memory of Coach Crowley’s father, Joe King, who passed away on Friday night. The game went into overtime tied at 4-4, but Toni Ann Miano scored just 28 seconds into overtime to give BC a 5-4 victory. Miano scored 4 goals in Saturday’s game for her first hat trick. She now has 30 career goals, leading the program in goals by a defenseman. This is the second time this season that a BC player has scored 4 times in a single game - freshman phenom Daryl Watts scored 4 goals last weekend against UNH. Watts also scored the only non-Miano BC goal in Saturday’s game, extending her point streak to 14 games.

BC returns to action tomorrow to check out Beanpot foes Harvard in a Tuesday night home game.
