Boston College field hockey, who came into the weekend ranked #8 in the country, lost a tough match to #5 Syracuse this evening by a score of 6-0. The Eagles are now 4-1, while Syracuse improves to 6-0. This was the first ACC game of the year for both teams.

Syracuse started off the scoring 6 minutes into the game with a backhanded shot. The Orange would not score again until the 25 minute mark, but then scored 3 goals in the span of 4 minutes. Syracuse led 4-0 going into the second half, and would score twice more for the final 6-0 tally.

The Orange outpaced the Eagles in the first half, allowing BC to get only 1 shot. Things were more evenly matched in the second, as both teams managed 4 shots. Overall, Syracuse recorded 7 shots on net and BC had 3.

This was a particularly tough game for BC goalkeeper Sarah Dwyer, who made only 1 save in the match. Dwyer is in her first season as starting goaltender and is still settling into the pace of the NCAA game.

The Eagles will look to turn their luck around on Sunday at 1 PM. Sunday’s game against Providence will air online via ACC Network Extra.
