Boston College Field Hockey Loses Shootout to #2 Duke

The Eagles played hard, but lost 3-2

Boston College field hockey dropped a heartbreak to Duke today, falling in the shootout to the #2 team in the country. The Eagles fought hard and put the pressure on the Blue Devils, outshooting them 22-16, but lost by a final score of 3-2.

Duke opened the scoring just 2 minutes in to take an early lead, but BC’s Caroline McGovern tied things up 5 minutes later with her 3rd goal of the season. Duke scored their final regulation goal near the end of the first period and took a 2-1 lead into the second.

The only goal of the second period was scored by BC’s Alesandra Miller, who scored on her first shot on goal. It was Miller’s second goal of the year.

BC and Duke played through two scoreless overtime periods tied at 2-2 before heading into the shootout to determine a winner. Caroline McGovern and Frederique Haverhals both scored for BC in the shootout, but Duke scored 3 goals on Sarah Dwyer to ultimately earn the win.

BC returns to action on Sunday afternoon with what should be an easier game against UNH.
