Name: Michael Karow

Number: 2

Position: Defense

Class Year: Freshman

Drafted: By the Arizona Coyotes with pick #126 in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Background: Karow was selected in the 5th round of this summer’s NHL Entry Draft. He is a well-regarded defensive prospect who spent last season with the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms. Karow had 21 points in 58 regular season games for the Phantoms, including 4 goals, and was second amongst defensemen on the team in points, goals, and assists. Karow has strengthened his game a lot over past year or two, pushing his drafted stock higher than was initially expected. In addition to being able to put up some points on offense, Karow is skilled at shutting down opportunities for the opposing team.

2017-18 Outlook: Karow should easily be a top six defender for BC this season, and it would not be a surprise to see him on the second defensive pairing. His ability to set up plays for the offense will be a big plus, and fans can expect him to earn a number of assists. Karow’s shut-down defensive style of play will also be important for the Eagles, who will be relying on defense and goaltending to keep them in games after losing their top scorers this offseason. Expect Karow to quickly grow into an integral part of BC’s defense.

Fun Fact: While playing for Youngstown, Karow volunteered at a local food bank.
