The Boston College field hockey team earned a 5-4 victory in an exciting double OT game against Pacific today. The Eagles had the offensive advantage in the game, with 27 shots on goal to Pacific’s 8, but they struggled to secure a lead. With today’s win, the Eagles are now 7-0 in non-conference play.
Lucy Lytle opened the scoring 4 minutes into the game, giving BC an early 1-0 lead with a wraparound goal. Pacific then scored 2 unanswered goals, but BC tied things back up near the end of the first half thanks to a rebound goal from Carly Kauffman. This was Kauffman’s first career goal.
Pacific scored early in the second to regain the lead, but BC freshman Fusine Govaert tied the game at 3 with a rebound off of the goalie’s pads. Just a minute later, Pacific would take a 4-3 lead, but Ymke Rose Gote used a corner opportunity to bring the score to 4-4 at minute 58.
Regulation ended with the teams knotted at 4 goals apiece, and despite some great chances for the Eagles, it took 2 overtimes to end the game. Senior Brooke Matherson scored on her 5th shot on goal to secure the 5-4 victory for BC, getting her first GWG of her career.
The Eagles return to action on Friday, when they will look to earn their first ACC win of the year as they face Duke at BC.
