The Boston College field hockey team fell to 0-3 in ACC play today after losing to Virginia. The #8 ranked Eagles fell to #4 UVA by a score of 3-0.
The Eagles had 5 shots on goal, but were unable to get anything past Carrera Lucas in UVA’s net. Sarah Dwyer made 4 saves for BC, but allowed 3 goals in the loss.
The game was scoreless until 14 minutes into the first, when UVA’s Pien Dicke scored her 8th goal of the year. Virginia took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Greta Ell increased the lead to 2-0 just 8 minutes into the second half, and Dicke scored her second goal of the game in the final minute to give UVA the 3-0 victory.
The Eagles were hurt by corners, allowing 11 and receiving only 4. BC also struggled a bit with possession, as 2 of the 3 UVA goals came off of steals.
BC was led by Brooke Matherson, who had 3 shots on goal, and Frederique Haverhals who had 4 shots that were all a bit wide or high.
The Eagles will stick around in Virginia this weekend to play Pacific on Sunday afternoon.
