In a battle of two of New England’s best college soccer teams, Boston College came away with its best win of the season, a 2-1 victory in Double OT over the Providence Friars. The Eagles won on Simon Enstrom’s penalty kick in the second overtime period, which broke a 1-1 draw.

The teams went into the half in a scoreless draw until BC center back Abe Bibas was able to head home a ball in the box. Freshman goalkeeper Antonio Chavez Borelli and his defense were able to hold onto the lead through an offensive barrage from the Friars (who finished with a 21-14 edge in shots). However, in the 85th minute, Mac Steeves was able to finish a short pass in the box to even the score.

In the first overtime period, neither team had any real chances. However, in the first minute of the second period, Providence nearly scored as an inswinging cross grazed the crossbar. On a counter-attack, the Eagles got a cross into the box, which hit a defender’s hand to get them a penalty kick, which Enstrom finished (both the shot and the game) with authority.

The Eagles will travel to play number 10 Louisville on Friday night at 7 PM.
