Boston College Field Hockey Improves to 6-0 in Non-Conference Play

The Eagles defeated William & Mary this afternoon

After a tough OT loss to UNC earlier this weekend, Boston College field hockey earned a victory against #18 William & Mary this afternoon. The Eagles dominated on all fronts and were able to secure a 3-0 win.

Freshman Fusine Govaert opened the scoring 24 minutes into the game, using a good corner set-up from Ymke Rose Gote get the goal. This would be the only goal scored in the first half.

Brooke Matherson increased BC’s lead to 2-0 with 7 minutes remaining in the game, grabbing her own rebound and sending it past the goalie. Freshman Jaime Natale ended any hopes of a comeback for William & Mary with a minute and a half left in the game, capitalizing on a pass from Lucy Lytle in front of the net.

The Eagles led with 20 shots on goal to William & Mary’s 4. The team was particularly accurate today, and only had 4 shots that were not on goal. On the other end of the field, goalie Sarah Dwyer saved all 4 shots she faced for her second shutout of the season.

The Eagles return to action on Friday, when they will head to Virginia and look to earn their first ACC win.
