Boston College Field Hockey Drops OT Heartbreaker to UNC

The Eagles are now 0-2 in the ACC

The Boston College field hockey team dropped a close match to UNC today, falling 2-1 in overtime to the #7 team in the nation. The Eagles dropped to 0-2 in the ACC with the loss, but are 5-2 overall.

UNC scored only 3 minutes into the game, taking an early 1-0 lead. They continued to fire shots off, but strong goaltending from Sarah Dwyer and defense from Alyssa Olenick kept the game close. Dwyer ended the game with a career high 9 saves, and Olenick recorded 2 defensive saves.

BC’s offense rewarded the strong defensive play from Dwyer and the defense with a goal 61 minutes into the game. Ymke Rose Gote scored her first goal of the year on a fast break from midfield. Her tying goal sent the game into overtime. Unfortunately for the Eagles, UNC capitalized on a corner to take the ball to the net for a 2-1 victory.

BC returns to action on Sunday to face William & Mary on the road.
