The Boston College volleyball team had a fairly successful pair of games this past weekend, going 1-1. This is the first week this season in which the Eagles have not lost more games than they won. The team’s overall record is now 3-5.
The Eagles opened the weekend with a tough game against Temple on Friday. Temple won the game in straight sets, but the Eagles fought hard throughout. The first set was a back and forth affair, culminating in a 21-21 tie before Temple managed to break free and earn a 25-22 victory. The Owls jumped out to an early lead in set 2, but BC nearly managed a comeback before ultimately losing 25-20. The final set was similar to the first, going back and forth until Temple won by a score of 25-23.
On Saturday, the Eagles picked up their first road win of the season with a 3-1 victory against Delaware. Delaware won the first set, thanks in part to an early 7-1 run. Set 2 was a close match, resulting in numerous ties until the set ended with BC leading 26-24. The Eagles came into set 3 ready to play, going on an early 9-1 run and at one point leading by 17 points. BC ultimately won this set 25-9. In the final set, the Eagles again dominated play and picked up a 25-15 victory.
Cat Balido continues to be a star for the Eagles, leading the match on Friday with 13 kills and earning a double-double on Saturday with 21 points and 20 kills. Lynn Braakhuis, who has also been an important factor for BC this season, recorded a double-double of her own on Saturday with 15.5 points and 15 kills. Sophomore Jane DeJarld had one of her best games of the year against Delaware, recording 23 assists.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday night, when they will take on hometown rival Harvard.
