The Boston College volleyball team opened their season this weekend, playing 3 games in the BC Invitational. The Eagles improved as the weekend went on, going from an 0-3 loss to Fairfield on Friday night to a 1-3 loss to Providence on Saturday afternoon to a 3-1 victory over Alabama at Birmingham on Saturday evening.
Despite losing in straight sets to Fairfield, BC showed some skill in the first game of the season. Sol Cavete had a perfect kill average in the second set, and had a strong .800 hitting percentage in the final set. Junior McKenna Goss lead the Eagles with 7 kills against Fairfield, and Jane DeJarld led the team with 10 assists.
In Saturday’s loss to Providence, BC picked up one set victory despite an overall loss. Cat Balido led the Eagles with 14 kills, while sophomore Jane DeJarld continued her strong weekend with 23 assists and 11 digs, both team highs. DeJarld and Balido both recorded double-doubles against the Friars.
In their first victory, the Eagles defeated Alabama at Birmingham 3-1, losing the third set before securing a match victory. Sol Calvete and Cat Balido led the Eagles with 13 and 12 kills respectively. Jane DeJarld led the Eagles in assists yet again in Saturday night’s game, this time with 18.
BC returns to action on Friday at 11 AM, when they will face they Princeton Tigers.
