Boston College Women’s Soccer Earns Comeback Victory in Season Opener

The Eagles defeated James Madison University in overtime

The Boston College women’s soccer team opened the regular season today with a game against James Madison University. This was not expected to too difficult of a game for the Eagles, but they did not lead until the final goal. BC ultimately earned a 4-3 victory and will play William & Mary on Sunday in their second game of the JMU Tournament.

The Eagles were down for most of today’s game and did not score their first goal until well into the second half. James Madison was up 2-0 until sophomore forward Olivia Vaughn broke BC’s scoreless streak off a header with 28 minutes left in the game. James Madison regained a 2 goal lead 10 minutes later, making the score 3-1 with 18 to play.

Following JMU’s 3rd goal, Boston College took control of the game. Sophomore Jenna Bike cut BC’s deficit to 1 with 5 minutes to play, and Vaughn scored a last minute goal (her second of the game) to send the game into overtime. During overtime, BC earned a PK and Lauren Berman scored to secure the win for the Eagles.

BC now faces William & Mary on Sunday at 11:30. William & Mary defeated Providence 2-0 in the first game of the JMU Tournament. You can follow Sunday’s game here.
