Katie Burt was selected with the first overall pick in tonight’s NWHL Draft. Burt was the first of three Eagles selected (Kenzie Kent and Tori Ann Miano were also drafted - check back tomorrow to read more on them). Burt was drafted by the Boston pride, currently home to all the former Eagles in the NWHL. This does not necessarily mean that Burt will play for the Pride - since most NWHL players hold second jobs, trades are often made to accommodate player’s lives outside of the NWHL.
As one of the best young goalies in the game, it is unsurprising the Burt would be in demand, but, as a goalie, many were surprised to see her as the number one pick. Burt had a career best .935 save percentage last season and a 1.54 GAA and has saved a number of games for the Eagles. Her talent should translate easily to the NWHL.
Burt’s fellow first round draftees are SLU’s Kennedy Marchment (to Buffalo), Quinnipiac’s Taylar Cianfarano (to New York), and BC’s own Kenzie Kent (to Boston).
