Boston College sports are back! The women’s soccer team opened the year at UConn for an exhibition game, and came away with a 4-0 victory. The Eagles lost their top two scorers to graduation, so this is a solid start to the 2017 season.
Junior Elysa Virella opened the scoring with the only goal of the first half to give BC a 1-0 lead. The Eagles then increased the pressure in the second half to run away with the game.
Lauren Berman, the top returning scorer, scored the first goal of the second half off of an attempted clear by UConn. BC then went up 3-0 with a goal from Gianna Mitchell, the only freshman to score in today’s game. Sophomore Jenna Bike, who is poised to be a breakout player for the Eagles, scored the final goal of the game to give the Eagles a 4-0 win.
Starting goaltender Alexis Bryant, a redshirt junior, earned a shutout in the victory and made 2 saves.
BC returns to action next Friday to open the regular season at the JMU Tournament in Virginia, where they will play James Madison and William & Mary.
