One of the few bright spots this offseason for Boston College basketball had to be landing prized graduate transfer Deontae Hawkins from Illinois State. The 6’8 power forward averaged 14 points a game for a good team, and looked like he would add a solid presence to the dynamic Jerome Robinson/Ky Bowman front court.
Well it looks like that plan may need to be scrapped. According, his former coach Dan Muller, he is no longer committed to play at Boston College. In a radio interview, Muller said:
"Deontae, actually, I don't think he's going to Boston College," Muller said on a podcast with 103.3 WZND radio in Illinois last week. "He's opened it back up. He's thinking about a lot of different things right now."
If this is true, this is a brutal loss for the basketball team. They already lost A.J. Turner as a transfer to Northwestern, and have been whiffing on a bunch of local 2018 recruits, so this would be the icing on the cake. There is no word on why this is happening, and of course it hasn’t been verified yet by anyone connected to the situation. But it’s unsettling none the less.
Stay tuned....
