Name: Sam Schmal
Position: Offensive Line
Number: 73
Year: Senior
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 310
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
High School: Westminster School
2016 Stats: Schmal played in 11 games last year, in which he filled in for Aaron Monteiro and started at left tackle once.
Projections: Schmal is certainly talented enough to start on the line, but there are just so many returning starters in front of him. Monteiro and Chris Lindstrom both started last year, and incoming grad transfer Marcell Lazard out of West Virginia would not be coming into the team if he was not a virtual guarantee. If I had to guess, Schmal would be the first lineman to play in case of injury or just rotation, as he can plug into either tackle or guard spot.
Over/Under: Hard to say, as terrible as it is to ponder his play really depends if there are injuries along the line. He could play in anywhere from 4 games to 15.
How’d He Get Here: A 3-star recruited by Al Washington and Justin Frye, Sam Schmal was a firm BC commit all the way through the recruiting process. He only had one offer (from the Eagles), but there looked to be serious interest from Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Duke.
BC Award: Most ironic name. The dude is massive
