Boston College Football Recruiting: Eagles Land Commitment From 2018 OL Thomas Shelmire

A big commitment from deep in the heart of Texas

NCAA Football: North Carolina State at Boston College Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Boston College landed a solid commitment on Saturday when Texas offensive lineman Thomas Shelmire pledged to the Eagles (per Shelmire’s personal Twitter)

Shelmire a 3* offensive guard from Highland Park, Texas is a fascinating recruit for the Eagles. He held offers from North Texas, Army, Navy, Colorado Sate and SMU. Don’t know if it is related or not, but Boston College offensive line coach Justin Frye was recently at a Baylor camp. In a state flush with talent, Shelmire was on a talented team, and was named first team all state at his position.

The 6’3 285 pounder is the Eagles first recruit from the state of Texas and the second offensive lineman in the Class of 2018 joining 4* offensive lineman Finn Dirstine. Although he doesn’t have any major school offers, this commitment seems like a slam dunk for the Eagles.

Boston College has quite a few lineman graduating in the next two years with starters Chris Lindstrom, Jon Baker, and Aaron Monteiro all graduating. Grabbing any sort of quality depth at this position is crucial for future success of the program.
