Matt Gaudreau, who graduated from BC this spring, has signed a 1 year contract with the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Gaudreau had signed an ATO with the team following the conclusion of BC’s season and trained with the Sound Tigers this spring, but he did not dress for any AHL games during the 2016-17 season. Gaudreau will join Stephen Gionta in the Islanders organization - Gionta split last season between the AHL and NHL.
Gaudreau, who is quick but tough, is just the type of player that AHL fans love to watch. During his 4 years at BC Gaudreau recorded 63 points, and he led the team in assists as a senior with 27. He was second on the Eagles with 54 penalty minutes as a senior, which could also earn him some fans in the minor league.
Gaudreau showed significant improvement from season to season throughout his time at BC, so fans should expect him to make an impact for the Sound Tigers after he has adjusted to the pace of AHL play.
Gaudreau was a fan favorite at BC, so local fans should make sure to check out a Sound Tigers game - or to go see them play when they face the Providence Bruins (and Tommy Cross & Ryan Fitzgerald).
