Better Know An Eagle 2017: #11 Defensive End Wyatt Ray

A defensive end that could take a huge step in 2017

NCAA Football: Quick Lane Bowl-Boston College vs Maryland Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Wyatt Ray

Number: 11

Position: Defensive End

Height: 6’3

Weight: 249 lbs

Hometown: Boca Raton, Florida

High School: St. Thomas, Aquinas

2016 Stats: Played in all 13 games for the Eagles, recording 27 tackles, including seven for a loss of 29 yards and 4.5 sacks for a loss of 22 yard, also forced one fumble . (via BCEagles.com) Had 1.5 sacks against UMass.

Projection: Ray is certainly going to get some solid playing time this year, cycling in and out with Zach Allen and Harold Landry on the defensive end. With Kevin Kavalec graduating, his snaps probably will increase. With good instincts he could really be a name Eagles fans need to watch for this season.

Over/Under: 7.5 sacks. With Landry getting the extra attention, Ray could see more 1-1 matchups, and with more snaps this seems like a slam dunk.

How’d He Get Here: Ray was a 3* defensive end out of Florida in the Class of 2015. He also held offers from Indiana, Louisville, Minnesota, Syracuse, NIU, Wake Forest and Western Michigan.

Quotes from ‘Daz: “Then you add in the fact that you have guys like Zach Allen who I think is a phenomenal potential guy. He's a pass-rusher. Just a great pass-rusher. Wyatt Ray, Ray Smith. I think the development of our front. But those three pass-rushers specifically, you're talking about the guy who led the country in sacks in the best conference in college football. Then you're talking about two other guys who I think are getting ready to make the same jump that Harold made last year, right?” - From the Spring Practice Press Conference.
