Boston College offensive lineman Jon Baker was named to the 2017 Rimington Trophy Watch list today.
The Rimington Trophy is the annual trophy presented to college football’s “Most Outstanding Center,” an award presented to a position that does much of the dirty work with little of the glory. The award is named after Dave Rimington, former Nebraska Cornhusker center and the only two-time winner of the Outland Trophy. The Trophy also partners with the Boomer Esiason Foundation, and has helped raise $2.9 million to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis.
Baker, a Millis, Massachusetts product, has been a stalwart on the Eagles’ offensive line. He started every game of the past two seasons, playing the last 22 games at center. He also played in an additional ten games his freshman year. His senior experience at the center position will no doubt help boost the chemistry of an offensive line that returns four of its five starters.
Past winners of the Rimington Trophy have included Florida State’s Bryan Stork (2013), Alabama’s Ryan Kelly (2015), and Florida’s Maurkice Pouncey (2009).
The trophy will be officially presented January 13, 2018, so obviously there is a lot of football to play between now and then. Congratulations Jon!
