Yesterday's announcement of pushing back the contests with Ohio State to 2026 and 2027 should not come as a surprise. On September 4, 2014 Ohio State announced they had signed a home-and-home with the University of Notre Dame for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. An existing home game in 2023 with the University of Texas created an astounding 12 Power 5 matchups for Ohio State in 2023. Since that announcement 2.5 years ago I have been adamant that BC's game with OSU would be moved once again. So much so that I have requested the contract on 3 separate occasions via Open Records Request, with the latest being this past January.
The original contract was signed by GDF yet crossed out by Eric Ziady, Senior Associate AD, on August 21, 2012. The addendum that moved the original contests from 2020/2021 to 2023/2024 was signed by Brad Bates on August 9, 2024. To note, there is a $300,000 liquidated sum payable from the breaching party.
On October 11, 2016 Boston College announced a home-and-home with the University of Missouri for 2021 and 2024, the latter of which would coincide with the season also scheduled against Ohio State. Missouri and Ohio State in the same season? This sounded too fishy to me which is why I again requested the contract from Ohio State. So although the contract was not officially modified once again, one can assume that negotiations were ongoing.
Will the contest vs Ohio State ever occur you ask? Yes, I believe it will in 2026 and 2027. The question will be, will BC move it's 2026/2027 games vs another Big 10 team, Rutgers. Only time will tell how Martin Jarmond's scheduling philosophy will play out. The schedule is full through 2022 except for an FCS game needed in 2021. His biggest task will be finding a P5 game in 2023 now that Ohio State is moved. Other than that, Martin doesn't have much work to do with P5 scheduled through 2029.
So who's joining me in Columbus, Ohio in 2026? Be there or be square.
