It’s been a relatively quiet winter/spring practice session for Steve Addazio and his Boston College Eagles. But there were a few storylines that were worth following including the new tempo based offense, the injuries all over the offensive line, and the quarterback battle between Anthony Brown and Darius Wade. Tomorrow caps off their spring work with their annual spring game, and while we may not know the format, there are a few things we as fans should be watching out for.
How To Watch: On The Watch ESPN App (at Noon)
Five Keys To The Game:
- The Great Battle of Wade vs. Brown: No one knows who the starting quarterback is going to be when Boston College takes on Northern Illinois to start the season, but tomorrow’s game should showcase both of these QBs. Who will shine, will a starter be very clear after watching the game, or will there battle rage into the summer. Also, EJ Perry is there as well, what will he show us.
- BC’s Offensive Line Rag Time Army: Jon Baker. Out. Elijah Johnson. Out. That’s two of the usual starters who you won’t see tomorrow, but we knew that ahead of time. The names you are going to want to watch for will be Shane Leonard at center, who apparently has been very impressive this spring, moving Chris Lindstrom to tackle, and Aaron Monteiro possibly to guard. This is certainly not going to be the crew we see at the first game, but it’ll be interesting to watch how the line handles the changes.
- Younger Receivers: Jeff Smith, Tommy Sweeney Charlie Callinan, Thadd Smith and Michael Walker are our known commodities at this point. Hopefully we see some improvement in the drops category this year. But there are other names we should watch out for, most notably Kobay White a redshirt freshman who has been making huge plays during practices. Other names to watch out for are Nolan Borgersen who has been hammered with injuries the past two seasonsE, and Korab Idrizi a sophomore tight end we got to see a little of in the Quick Lane Bowl but could be a factor in a more balanced offense.
- Sneaky Good Secondary: Even with the loss of John Johnson to graduation, Boston College could have a very strong secondary going into the 2017 season and we could see some of that on Saturday. They may make some interceptions, but they strike me more as a Legion of Boom type, that is going to make some big hits on receivers. Taj Amir Torres is a name to watch out for at defensive back, and returning starters like Will Harris, Gabe McClary and Isaac Yiadom also should be names to watch for.
- Harold Landry Tour Starts: Just enjoy it, he’s going to be an absolute monster this year, and it all starts tomorrow. Don’t just watch him though, watch what he does for the guys around him, how the double team frees up other guys to make plays. That’s going to be part of the joy of watching him
Spring Game Snack Treat Of The Game:

Mmmmm bagels. It’s an early game, and if you are going to the ALS Game at Fenway after the Spring Football Game (which you totally should) you are going to need to pace yourself for the day. My favorite bagels come from Bagel World up on the North Shore, just prepare yourself, the lines suuuuuck. But they are so so very delicious.
Beer Of The Game:

Tuckerman’s Headwall ALT: Went a little funky on you with this one. An altbier is a german style beer, using only malt from the region. Tuckerman’s located in Conway, NH is a favorite of mine, served everywhere in NH, and with ski season over with, let’s bring a little of that Northern country down to Boston.

Rap Song Of The Game:
Run The Jewels: Legend Has It:
This song has nothing to do with this game, it just is a great song, and an even better video. I know it’s not “old school” but Run The Jewels has such a great old school feel to it, if you haven’t checked them out you have to now. Also, make sure to put how much you hate rap music in the comment section, I really listen to you.
Fan Thermometer:
