Although they fought hard, Boston College women’s lacrosse lost to top-ranked Maryland last night. The Eagles were defeated by a score of 21-13. The Eagles are now 6-3 on the season.
Despite outshooting the Terps in the first half of the game, BC went into the second half trailing 8-7. The Eagles did not lead at any point during yesterday’s game. Maryland started the second half with a 6-0 run and BC was unable to stage a big enough comeback, as the Terps extended the lead every time BC started catching up.
Despite the tough loss, sophomore Sam Apuzzo continues to be a standout for BC. She had 4 goals and 2 assists in the game, and led the Eagles with 7 draws. Apuzzo leads the NCAA in points this season with 51 - Notre Dame’s Cortney Fortunato is in second place with 42 points. Apuzzo also leads the NCAA in assists with 22.
In addition to Apuzzo, two other Eagles recorded hat tricks yesterday. Junior Kaileen Hart scored a career high 4 goals, while Kayla O'Connor picked up a hat trick for the third game in a row. Dempsey Arsenault and Kate Weeks rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with 1 goal apiece.
Boston College returns to action on Wednesday, March 15 when they take on Monmouth. The game will stream online via ACC Network Extra.
