Boston College landed another 2018 recruit yesterday afternoon when New York defensive tackle Kyiev Bennermon (Spackenkill HS) committed to the Eagles:
I've officially made my decision to commit to Boston College, It's been a long journey and I would like to thank everyone who supported— Kyiev Bennermon (@kyievgotjuice) March 29, 2017
Bennermon a two sport athlete who also plays basketball is a 6’4 280 pounder, considered a three star recruit by 247sports. He currently does not have any other offers, probably because he plays at a small school with a very small program in an area that is not very heavily recruited.
His coach spoke highly of him according to the local paper “In training camps, he was our most physically dominant player,” coach Clinton DeSouza said. “He was still raw as a sophomore, though. But everything clicked in his junior year. That's when the assistant coaches and I were like, ‘This kid could be something special.'” By the article it sounds like Bennermon is still growing and learning the game, and that he makes big jumps year by year.
Defensive tackle is clearly a position that is of need for the Eagles. After losing Truman Gutapfel this year, it leaves a pretty big hole in terms of experience. Noa Merritt and Ray Smith both look ready to be the big guys up the middle, but the depth chart after them including Kevin Cohee and Jack Kenny are limited in terms of experience. Adding a big guy like Kyiev is huge, and because he hasn’t been super recruited yet, BC could go out and get a second DT, someone with more offers.
Bennermon is the fourth recruit in the Class of 2018, and all four have camped at Boston College and all are from the northeast. You can check out his film below. Welcome to the Heights Kyiev!
