Scott Savage has signed an ATO (amateur tryout agreement) with the Cleveland Monsters. The Monsters are the AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets. He joins Cam Atkinson in Columbus’ system - Atkinson plays for the Blue Jackets.
Savage was undrafted and was able to sign with any team this spring. He was a huge factor for BC this season, contributing both on defense (where he was the only upperclassman) and on offense. Savage was first among Boston College defensemen and second overall with 24 assists this season.
Savage a strong playmaker who should be able to continue to set up goals while playing strong defense as he adjusts to the speed of professional play. He’s is a player that will probably spend awhile in the minor leagues, particularly since there are fewer spots for defensemen on rosters. However, Savage definitely showed significant improvement through his years at BC and if he continues to work hard and improve he could earn some NHL call-ups.
Savage will join the Monsters for the remainder of the season - the Monsters are currently in 6th place in the Central Division.
Congrats to Savage on his new deal with the Monsters!
