The Boston College women’s lacrosse team earned their 7th win of the season yesterday, defeating Monmouth by a score of 14-5. The Eagles are now 7-3 this season, although they are 0-2 in the ACC.
The Eagles and the Hawks fought back and forth during the first half, and BC ended the period leading by only 1 goal. Monmouth and BC both scored within the first 5 minutes of the second half, but BC secured the lead by then going on a 7-0 scoring run. The Hawks scored twice more before the end of the game, but they were unable to stage a real comeback and BC came away with the 14-5 victory.
The Eagles were led by Kate Weeks, who recorded her 100th career point in yesterday’s match. Weeks is one of 22 players in programs history to score 100 points. She had 6 points total in yesterday’s game: 4 goals and 2 assists.
Kayla O'Connor and Sam Apuzzo also continued to shine for the Eagles. Apuzzo scored 2 goals, recorded 1 assist, and caused a career high 5 turnovers. O’Connor had a career high 6 draw controls and also scored a hat trick. She has scored hat tricks in 4 games straight.
Freshmen midfielders Ally Mayle and Kate Taylor both had firsts in today’s game: Mayle scored her first career goal, while Taylor recorded her first collegiate assist. With a goal and an assist today, this was also Taylor’s second career multi-point game - she scored twice against Harvard earlier this season.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday at noon, when they will look to earn their first ACC win of the season as they take on Louisville. The game will stream for free on ACC Network Extra.
