BC 58 – Fairfield 66
The Eagles fell to 3-5 this afternoon with a home loss to Fairfield University. This was the team’s third consecutive loss as they returned to Conte following road losses to BU and Columbia. This is a particularly tough one to stomach as the Stags came into the afternoon at 2-5 with double digit losses to New Hampshire and Northeastern.
BC and Fairfield traded leads in the first half, with the Eagles entering half time ahead 26-25. The Stags came out stronger to open the second half to give themselves a 45-38 advantage at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Eagles mounted a comeback in the early minutes of the 4th quarter to tie the score at 47-47, but they were unable to close. Fairfield pulled away in the final 4 minutes fueled by 3 three-pointers by Samantha Cooper to secure the upset. Cooper led all scorers with 24 points.
Taylor Ortlepp led the Eagles with 18 points and Emma Guy put up 12 points and 11 rebounds. BC outrebounded Fairfield 51-31, but turned the ball over 19 times. The Eagles will head to Holy Cross next to take on the Crusaders on Wednesday night at 7:00.
