Previewing and Predicting Boston College Men’s Basketball vs. Virginia

The 10-3 Boston College Eagles will try to increase their winning streak to six games when they go to Charlottesville, Virginia to take on the University of Virginia Cavaliers.

Keys to the Game

This is going to be a tough one. UVA, a top 15 team in the country, is known for head coach Tony Bennett’s pack-line defense, which focuses on team defense and communication. One of the biggest keys to this game will be limiting turnovers, especially turnovers that Virginia can turn into quick offense. Ky Bowman and Jerome Robinson have shown their ability to take over games against Duke and UNC over the past two years, but if BC has any hopes of being a .500 team in the ACC and reaching the NCAA tournament, they must show they can do it on a consistent basis in the ACC. This will be a tough game to win regardless, but to be competitive, the dominant backcourt needs to put constant pressure on the defense, which will ease the pressure on Nik Popovic and Steffon Mitchell offensively and will help get Jordan Chatman good looks offensively.

Predictions

Katie: I’ll take the upset! 72-69 BC

Matt: 60-47 UVA. The defense stifles the dynamic backcourt and Jim Christian gets outcoached. UVA has two smart guards in Ty Jerome and Kyle Guy who could pose problems for Robinson and Bowman.

Food and Non-alcoholic Beverage to Enjoy During the Game

Grab some hot chocolate and some chicken noodle soup and bundle up on the couch for this one, because it’ll be COLD.
