Eagles’ freshman midfielder Sam Coffey was named to the preliminary roster for the U20 US Women’s National Team for the Nike International Friendlies by head coach Jitka Klimkova. The 24-player roster will be reduced to 20 for 2018 U20 World Cup qualifying matches beginning in January. Coffey is one of five ACC players named to the roster, including three players from Virginia and one from Virginia Tech. The squad will take on England, Finland, and Brazil in friendlies during December.
Coffey is coming off a strong first season, in which she started all 20 games for the Eagles. She led the team with 10 assists, and recorded 20 points with 5 goals. She also had a team high 36 shots on goal.
The U20 team’s first match will be on Thursday, December 7 at 6:30 PM vs. England. U20 World Cup qualifying begins in January in Trinidad & Tobago.
