It’s everybody’s favorite time of the year (except for the people that take this way to seriously and think it is ruining BCI)! This first semester of hockey has gone about how most of us expected for BC MIH this year - some great wins, some bad losses, overall decent but not stellar. They are clearly a young team that needs to work on strengthening defense and improving shooting chances. But the best way to look back on the past few months of hockey is clearly by using Taylor Swift gifs as analysis. So...
9/30 - BC 4, New Brunswick 1 (Exhibition)
New Brunswick is usually a pretty decent team, so we were expecting a tough exhibition game. But BC looked great and dominated the game and it made everyone feel better about the upcoming season.
10/6 - BC 1, Quinnipiac 1
BC opened the season for real with a tie with Quinnipiac. This wasn’t surprising or bad, but it definitely made some fans a little more nervous than they had been following the exhibition win.
10/13 - Wisconsin 5, BC 2
Wisconsin scored first and BC was unable to stage enough of a comeback to ever take the lead. This was a tough one for BC.
10/15 - BC 4, Providence 3 (OT)
BC went down 3-0 in this game before scoring 4 straight to earn an OT win. This was a thriller and showed that this BC team has a lot of heart.
10/20 - St. Cloud State 5, BC 2
And then BC fell apart in a heartbreaking loss to St. Cloud. The Eagles scored twice to start the game before allowing SCSU to score 5 goals in a row. Not ideal!
10/21 - St. Cloud State 3, BC 1
The Eagles followed up the 5-2 loss with a 3-1 defeat. And we never want to go back to St. Cloud again.
10/27 - Providence 2, BC 1
BC fans were hoping that heading to Providence to face a team BC had already defeated would get them winning again, but the Eagles were handed another loss and things started to feel bleak. (BC hockey fans are spoiled - 3 losses in a row doesn’t start to feel like disaster for many teams!)
10/28 - Denver 6, BC 1
This loss was expected, but still extremely upsetting and tough to watch. Against a very strong Denver team BC’s youth and weak spots were clearly on display.
11/3 - BC 3, Merrimack 1
A win against Merrimack wasn’t shocking, but after a bunch of losses it felt great.
11/4 - BC 2, Merrimack 1
A second win against Merrimack was a big deal, particularly since the Eagles tend to struggle at Lawler. It wasn’t the prettiest game, but BC got it done.
11/7 - BC 2, UConn 1
Ryan Edquist backstopped BC to a win over the Huskies following Woll’s suspension for kicking a player at Merrimack (oops). Fans know that Edquist is a good goalie, but it is always reassuring to see that our back-up is strong enough that he could be a starter somewhere else.
11/10 - BC 4, UVM 3
UVM started out with a 2-0 lead in this game, but BC yet again showed that this team can stage comebacks. Running the show against the middle-level Hockey East teams also made us all feel better.
11/11 - BC 5, UVM 1
After a close win in the first game against UVM, the Eagles totally dominated the Catamounts in their second game of the weekend.
11/17 - BC 3, UNH 2
Another come from behind win for BC after UNH scored first, this was a particularly sweet win since the Whittemore Center is never a fun rink to play at.
11/18 - BC 4, Northeastern 1
Most people expected BC to lose this game since Northeastern had been playing very well, but the Eagles showed up to Matthews ready to fight and totally dominated the Huskies. This game showed that BC has some inherent talent, even if the team needs some work to really come together and compete.
11/24 - BC 4, Harvard 4
Tying with Harvard was not the outcome we wanted (especially after watching the women’s team totally destroy the Crimson), but it wasn’t a terrible outcome. We didn’t like it, but it wasn’t the end of the world.
12/1 - BU 7, BC 4
The gif speaks for itself here.
12/2 - BC 4, BU 1
After a terrible loss to BU at Conte, the Eagles earned a win at Agganis thanks in no small part to stellar goaltending from Joseph Woll. This felt great after such a demoralizing loss.
12/9 - NU 5, BC 2
...and this version was bad. Not the best end to the semester, but the team clearly needs the rest to move on to bigger and better things when they return to action on December 30.
