Last Week: 3-2
Overall: 24-25-1
Lock of the Week Overall: 7-3
NC State at Boston College (+3)
Here are a couple of stats courtesy of BC media relations since the “It’s Going to Be Beautiful Rant”
-BC has outscored opponents 121-55
-BC has outgained opponents by an average of 465 to 361
That’s what Clemson and Alabama do to conference opponents, not BC.
Speaking of Clemson, NC State is coming off of a heartbreaking loss to the Tigers last week. The loss all but smashed the ‘Packs dreams of winning the ACC. The week before that the ‘Pack lost to Notre Dame which smashed State’s hopes of being in the college football playoffs.
Before the season I actually predicted BC to win this game because of the spot it fell on the schedule. The Eagles are coming off of a bye and the Wolfpack are coming off back-to-back dream crusher losses that surely have taken a lot out of the team emotionally. This is a perfect setup for BC.
Oklahoma State at Iowa State (+6.5)
Oklahoma State is coming off of a dream crusher loss in Bedlam. Can the Cowboys bounce back from a loss to a rival and their National Championship dreams being flushed down the toilet?
Meanwhile, Iowa State is still holding onto hopes that it can win the Big 12 and with TCU and Oklahoma squaring off on Saturday its chances are better than you might think. I’ll take the points with the home team and the 2nd best defense in the Big 12.
TCU (+6.5) at Oklahoma
Oklahoma is coming off of a huge emotional win against Okie State and Baker Mayfield has been hearing all week how he is the Heisman front runner. That usually isn’t a great mix for a bunch of kids.
Even if Oklahoma can ramp the intensity back up this week I still like TCU’s chances here. The Horned Frog have been every bit as good as the Sooners this year and this feels like a coin toss game. I’ll take the #1 defense in the Big 12 getting 6.5 please.
Clemson (-16) at Florida State
FSU got a much needed win last week against ‘Cuse but needed the opposing QB to get hurt to pull off that win. If Cuse’s QB Dungey was 100% and not limping around I think the Orange steal that game.
I think Clemson is due to really lay the lumber on someone.
Lock of the Week
Florida at South Carolina (-6)
Florida was a sexy pick by some last week catching a couple of points at Mizzou. The thought process there was that the team would rally after coach Jim McElwain was fired. Instead, Florida quit on interim coach Randy Shannon and got killed by a crappy Mizzou team, 45-16.
South Carolina has been professional in taking care of the garbage teams in the SEC like when it beat Mizzou by 18, Arkansas by 26, Tennessee by 6, and Vandy by 7. I have no doubts that they can do the same to Florida here. As a bonus, you know that Will Muschamp wants to payback his old school in a big way here.
