Boston College Men’s Hockey vs. Providence Preview

Can BC pick up a second win at Providence?

Big East Basketball Tournament - Quarterfinals Photo by Mike Stobe/Getty Images

After a tough weekend at St. Cloud State, BC returns to the east coast to face the only team they’ve beaten so far this season - Providence. Last time BC played the Friars, the Eagles came from behind to earn a thrilling overtime victory. They’ll need to keep Providence’s scoring to a minimum if they want to win again. It is difficult to predict what will happen because BC certainly has the skill to beat the Friars, but dumb penalties and struggles to finish their scoring chances have been keeping the Eagles down. Beating Denver on Saturday would be kind of a miracle, so a win in Providence would be huge for this team’s confidence (and ranking).

Ice Cream of the Game

Many of our other previews feature a beverage of the game, but this year we’ll be picking an ice cream dessert of the game for MIH games. Why, you ask? Because when Jerry York got the BC coaching job, he went out for ice cream sundaes to celebrate.

Rhode Island’s state fruit is the apple, so since it’s fall we’re suggesting indulging in some apple crumble a la mode after the game. (Apple crumble is better than apple pie don’t @ me.)

Cat Predictions

Every game, we have the cats of the Ellen M. Gifford Cat Shelter (located right across from BC at 30 Undine Road) predict the outcome of the games. The Gifford Cat Shelter is the oldest cageless, no-kill shelter in the USA.

Today’s prediction is brought to you by EditorCat Coffee. Coffee is a former resident of Gifford, where she lived for 4.5 years. At most other shelters she would have been euthanized for being unsocial and bratty, but now she has a home and is sort of friendly! Coffee is bowing to pressure from her mom (me) and picking BC to win by a score of 2-1.
